MILLER SCHOOL OF ALBEMARLE BRINGS XTERRA TRIATHLON BACK TO CHARLOTTESVILLE

After months of preparation, Miller School of Albemarle hosted an XTERRA Off-Road Triathlon on Saturday, May 20. The event, which featured a 1000 meter open-water swim, 18 mile mountain bike, and 6.2 mile run, also offered duathlon and trail run options for competitors.

With its scenic 1600 acre campus it was only a matter of time before MSA held an event of this caliber, but it was truly a school-wide effort that saw it come to fruition. Students in the Campus Trails service group have been constructing world-class trails over the past five years, and nearly every inch of them was utilized for the race.

In addition, the Land Management class constructed several needed bridges for the course out of wood that they milled themselves, and Endurance Team members were instrumental in making sure the trails were clear and well-marked for race day. The Facilities Department also went above and beyond in creating a brand-new beach entry at Alumni Lake, along with steps to exit the lake safely. The dozens of spectators were treated to an immaculate campus, and the sight of well over 100 swimmers entering the lake was a dazzling spectacle.
